We are growing our pallet business with IFCO. This company is a recycler of used pallets. They specialize in rebuilding and repair of broken pallets. Several of our AmeriCold facilities are using their service. They park trailers at our facilities for the collection of damaged pallets (cores) and pay us for them.
We are also testing a new service with IFCO in the Atlanta locations. IFCO delivers empty totes to these facilities for the collection of plastics and corrugate. When full, we load the totes on the core trailers for return to the IFCO processing facility. IFCO recycles the material. Several of our facilities do not generate enough of these recyclable materials to justify the expense of purchasing a baler for proper recycle. By using this service, we are assured the materials are getting recycled and we generate some soft savings by reducing volume in our dumpsters and compactors.
